Life During the Covid-19 Pandemic

To say that 2020 has been a year for the books would be an understatement. It’s been an interesting year for sure. I know I won’t be giving you any new information, just my perspective. So, I’ll keep this short. Here is a look at how things went down near us.

My 30th birthday was March 7th. We had a small party at my dad’s camp to celebrate. Little did we know, that would be the last get together we would have for a LONG time. We had heard a bit on the news about this new “coronavirus,” but none of us quite realized the extent of it and just how bad it would get.

Friday, March 13th, all schools in our area closed. It all went downhill quickly from there, with just about everything closing down, except essential businesses and quarantine starting. My husband, Shawn, works for an essential business, but since they were forced to greatly reduce, so did his salary. However, with his company furloughing about 95% of their employees, we felt lucky that he was still working. No one knew exactly how long this would last and whether or not the furloughed employees would be asked back soon. So, we were counting our blessings.

Over the next 6 months, not much happened. Shawn went to work. I stayed home with the kids. That’s about it. Crazy to think that 6 months of our life can be summed up in 2 sentences. But of course that was common. We kept busy at home the best we could. We spent a lot of time in the backyard, did a lot of cooking and baking, organized some of the house, and on a few occasions went to the camp. I can do a separate blog post on how I kept the kids occupied at home for 6 months straight, if there is enough interest.

I don’t want to speak too soon, but it does look like things are finally starting to look up. Louisiana moved to Phase 3 on Friday, September 11. I took Quinn to Target with me for the first time since early March. I was so proud of her for keeping her mask on the whole trip and not complain at all. She was so excited to finally come shopping with me again.

Shawn has his (original) salary back. We very occasionally see other people (in very small groups, don’t worry). I will start taking Quinn (not Milo because he won’t keep a mask on) to the store with me, so she gets out. Things are starting to get better. I know it will take much longer for things to get completely back to normal, but I definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope you can too.

Hugs,

Natalie
